Chetpet, also known as Chetput, is a locality of Chennai located close to Egmore and Nungambakkam. Chetpet is considered to be one of the oldest villages known to constitute Chennai. It is located in the central part of Chennai and has a pond, which is considered one of the last natural water bodies to have survived in the city. Chetpet has been named after Namperumal Chettiar who was the building contractor and philanthropist in the mid-19th century.
