Behala is a neighbourhood in the south-west of Kolkata. It is divided into two Vidhan Sabha constituencies Paschim and Purba. One of the oldest residential areas of the city, Behala is also an important industrial centre, housing many factories and manufacturing units like chemicals, plastic, spray painting, metal plating, etc. The prominent localities around this area include Taratala, Parnasree Pally, Manton, Kadamtala, Silpara, Thakurpukur, Sakher Bazar, etc. It is home to illustrious personalities of the city, such as Sourav Ganguly, former Indian national captain, and Sovan Chatterjee, the present Mayor of Calcutta. The major landmarks of Behala are West Bengal State Archaeology Museum, Sabarna Sangrahashala, Behala Airport, Sonar Durgabari, Barisha Chandi Mandir, Siddheshwari Kali Temple, and others. Connectivity Different means of public transport are easily accessible from this area, thus, making it immensely well-connected. Another Airport in this area is the Behala Airport, popularly referred to as Behala Flying Training Institute or Behala Flying Club. Disha Eye Hospital, Vidyasagar Hospital, Behala Balananda Brahmachari Hospital, DM Hospitals Ltd., Vivekananda Hospital, South Suburban Hospital, James Long Hospital, Good Earth Medical Care and Research Centre, etc. are the major hospitals in the vicinity.
