Bhandup East
Bhandup East is one of the oldest suburbs of Mumbai. The place has got its name from the old Shiva Temple - the Bhandupeshwar Mahadev Mandir located on the western part of the locality. Bhandupeshwar is one of the names of Lord Shiva. Shivaji Talao also called Shivaji Lake is also located in its vicinity. The people here are the natives of the Mumbai and majority of them belong to Agri and Koli castes. Bhandup was originally a forest region and has gradually been taken over by builders some 40 years ago. ConnectivityBhandup East boasts of good connectivity with the rest of Mumbai. Beside taxies and buses, Bhandup has its own railway station on the Central Line. Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport is less than an hour drive. Mumbai Central Railway Station is at a distance of 32.6 km and it takes an hour to reach via Eastern Expressway. Crompton Greaves was the first to start industry here in 1937.
